Ghost vista winload exe
As you said it worked for me, in fact I have now done it on other laptops and it always worked like a charm. I hope I don't need to clone drives in the future but if I do I will do the image route. So yesterday I put the Vista C: in the first drive bay and the Windows 7 drive in the Secomd drive bay. I also got the same WinLoad. I then got a new harddrive, installed Windows 7 onto it and I installed Ghost15 as well and then restored the cloned copy from the netwrok location to another new drive and I tried to reboot from the Windows 7 copy disk and I go the same WinLoad.
On a matter of terminology, what do you mean by "cloned"? Did you do Copy Drive or create a Recovery Point? Cloned means Copy Drive. It may not be a nice thing to say, but, I am glad that I am not the only one having problems with Ghost 15 deleting the winload.
Ghost support in India , does not seem to grasp that this is happening on the source disk even thought I twice advised them of this I will be asking for a refund as I have spent enough of my time debugging their product and am not willing to do any more of this for free.
Decided to use the seagate diskwizard which is a subset of the full Acronis product only works on seagate disks , used an internal removable drive and did make a good clone. It boots to DOS to do the clone. It does take awhile and you can see the completed percentages on the DOS screen as it is progressing.
If you walk away and come back later, all you see is a black blank screen. I manually powered down, disconnect the source disk, mounted the clone and was able to load successfully after one device driver being loaded message, it needed a reboot. Works OK now. Using the internal drive caddy is a lot faster then doing this using an external USB drive.
Looking forward to upgrading to Windows 7, It does looks like Clonezilla does handle Windows 7, perhaps I will give it a try. Does anyone know if the Seagate diskwizard handles or will handle windows 7? Under Vista I'm trying to do the same thing with Ghost It was very simple. I cannot understand why Ghost clearly cannot do this. I'm going to follow your suggestion and try the seagate diskwizard. Ghost damages the boot partitions on 1 The main operating system hard drive running the Ghost software.
In summary: Ghost 15 damages the boot partitions on all 3 drives - The technical and scientific term for which is : Boot Partition Armageddon.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree. That shouldn't be happening. The source HD shouldn't be changed.
And the target HD should boot. You missed answering my question about the second HD in the bay. It is a thinkpad t61p. I have Imaged to the second drive bay in the past using Ghost onwards, Backup Exec 8.
You are doing a procedure that worked in the past with other software. You shouldn't have those errors. Any comments from Symantec? Others are having the same problem. It is certainly not our intension for our customers to have anything but a pleasant experience with Norton. Good job. I was pretty annoyed that in cloning a disk my source drive was affected. I recovered it based on a restore point under Vista, but will not try and use to Ghost I think I'll try for a refund too, but it will have to be via Newegg where I bought the software from.
I have Ghost 15 but have not installed it yet. The fact that it is reported in this thread that the "source" drive is messed with makes me very leary of installing Ghost I would think it should be a golden rule never to do anything to the source drive. Can someone from Symantec comment on what exactly ever gets done to a source drive when you are cloning or imaging a drive from a cold boot?
Thanks, I want to use Ghost 15 but right now I am using a free program that came with a drivewire I purchased from Apricorn and it does images and clones in a very simple manner, and my clones and image restores have worked perfectly.
On my HP I have two partitions on the drive I wanted to clone. C: and D:. Something happened to C requiring some Vista recovery to boot, but it is now ok. But d: got completely wiped during the clone process. If I look at properties it say 0bytes full of 0byte drive and it does not even show in the disk management tool of Vista. It's now gone, and the partition is unreadable. Ok, I'll give the create image approach a try, and then restore with the new HD after booting from the CD.
But, does this do anything to my source disk C: drive? Skip to main content Press Enter. Sign in. Skip auxiliary navigation Press Enter. Skip main navigation Press Enter. Toggle navigation. Search Options. Ghost Solution Suite. Expand all Collapse all sort by most recent sort by thread.
