Cannot connect to c$ share windows 7

Finally, if all else fails, check the share settings and make sure that no one has gone and removed the administrative share. I have run into instances where someone thought it would be amusing to remove the administrative share and not tell anyone. If they are present and are set to 0 they need to be set to 1. You can see if a system has the shares easly by going to a command prompt and typing net share and noting the outcome. The one that I just noticed is one I just did a clean install of Windows 7 and I could access it before.

There are a few others that I don't think I've ever been able to access, but it's not a huge deal. The one I just installed W7 on, need that one to work. I'll have to see when I can get my hands on that machine again. As others have said its most likely that "file and print sharing" isn't enabled in the windows firewall under the exceptions tab, put a tick in the box for "file and print sharing" , and also you may need to tick the remote access box right click my computer, properties, remote tab, remote desktop section.

Uh, just to make sure The admin shares are not available on the home versions. First I checked the share on C: Properties said that it was not shared. Then went into the Network and Sharing Center.

I know this post is ancient, but it's the one that came up when I was Googling, so I thought I'd add the slightly different solution that fixed this issue for me after everything above and more failed. Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing is turned on. Firewall configured correctly and I would briefly disable it and try again to see if it worked, nope.

This pointed me to something wrong with the adapter settings. I would try to add permissions directly on the share and see if that is doing it. Dustin M. Feb 29, at UTC. Brian Feb 29, at UTC.

The firewall is off. BWelmers wrote: I would try to add permissions directly on the share and see if that is doing it.

Skillet This person is a verified professional. Have you tried creating a normal share on that machine and trying to access it? In my environment I have notice I have to add the domain It techs to the Administrator groups manually, also make sure you have you have the local admin enable as it is disable by default Domain administrators are in the local administrators group.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies so far. Thai Pepper. Steve M. This person is a verified professional. Don't know why, but it worked No luck. Clint Colding wrote: What are your homegroup settings? I'm pretty sure Homegroup is off by default in a domain environment. You shouldn't be part of a homegroup. This request is not supported by the network. Windows 7 network settings: current profile Work , Network discovery is on, file and printer sharing is on, public folder sharing is on anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders , Media streaming is off, Password protected sharing is off - this is the mindbender for me, as I thought this was the key.

Also, can someone tell me why my Main Win 7 User folders were shared by default after running the network wizard in win 7?!?
